Q&A

How much sodium is in the beef cheddar cheese pate, my dog likes the product, but I’m trying to minimize salt intake
Hi Dolores, below is our wet food that are low in sodium Braised Beef & Lamb Stew https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/one-pot-stews-braised-beef-and-lamb-stew-with-green-beans-and-sweet-potatoes Sodium – 0.32% (DM) Slow Cooked Chicken Stew https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/one-pot-stews-slow-cooked-chicken-stew-with-sweet-potato-spinach-and-apples Sodium – 0.31% (DM) You can find full AAFCO Nutrient Profiles for each of our complete and balanced recipes here https://app.salsify.com/catalogs/96cad16f-6a58-4436-a580-c1eec8771b3f/products?filter=%3D%27Product%20Category%27%3A%27Dog%20%3E%20Food%20%3E%20Wet%27&page=1 Hope this helps!
Want to make sure I understand how to use the stew. With it being such a liquid consistency, I want to make sure that it is not just a topper and that it is an actual full meal. If you were to give one box for every 10 pounds of weight, my 70 pound dog would require seven boxes a day?
Hi Linda, Our wet foods Butcher Block Pates and One Pot Stews are complete and balanced meal diet. For dogs that are outside of our feeding guide, you can estimate by finding the feeding recommendations for a dog that's half that weight, and then doubling it. So for example, you could double the recommendations for a 60 pound dog if your dog weighs 120 pounds, and so on. It's important to note that each dog is unique, with its own metabolism and dietary requirements, just like humans. If you feel that adjustments need to be made based on your dog's individual needs, that is perfectly acceptable. Some dogs may require less food, while others may require more. I hope this helps.
Is it safe to feed your dog a food with cheddar cheese as a main ingredient with all the potential risks of feeding your dog cheese every day?
Feeding your dog food with cheddar cheese as a main ingredient can have some potential risks and concerns: 1. **Lactose Intolerance**: Many dogs are lactose intolerant, which means they have trouble digesting dairy products. Regular consumption of cheese can lead to digestive upset, including diarrhea and vomiting. 2. **High Fat Content**: Cheddar cheese is high in fat, which can contribute to obesity and pancreatitis in dogs, especially if fed in large amounts or frequently. 3. **Sodium Content**: Cheese is also high in sodium, which can be harmful to dogs if consumed in excess. High sodium levels can lead to increased thirst, urination, and even more severe health issues like high blood pressure. 4. **Additives and Preservatives**: Some cheese products may contain additives or preservatives that are not ideal for dogs. If you want to include cheese in your dog's diet, it's best to do so in moderation and ensure it doesn't make up a significant portion of their food. You might also want to consult with your vet to ensure it's a suitable option for your dog's specific health needs.
How long can you refrigerate opened butcher block pate and stews?
Hi Rosalind, Thanks for reaching out! All of our wet food (including stews) and toppers can be refrigerated for 2-3 days after opening, so you don't have to use it all up as soon as you open it. You are also welcome to freeze it for up to a month. I hope this helps! If there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reach out. Thanks so much,
Can I feed butcher block pate in the morning and chicken and oats whole grain Clusters at night?
Hi there Marjorie, Thanks for reaching out to us! You are more than welcome to interchange between our clusters and wet food if your pup does not have any extreme sensitives. Although, It's never a good idea to cold turkey onto a new food because you do not know how your dogs will do. We always like to err on the side of caution when switching between recipes, so a short transition is recommended. Unlike traditional transition guidelines, this process shouldn't take more than a few meals. Once you know that the new recipe agrees with your pup, you're welcome to rotate freely between a couple of different formulas!

Frequently Asked Questions

Each pound of dehydrated food equates to about 4 dry cups of food.

Find your dog's daily feeding amount using the feeding guidelines.

Divide that amount by the total dry cups in your chosen box (see below).

2 lb box = 8 dry cups

10 lb box = 40 dry cups

Example:

A 30 lb dog with an average activity level is recommended 1 dry cup per day.

If you purchase a 10 lb box (40 dry cups), it will last 40 days.

Yes! Dehydrated food is great as a complete meal, topper to your dog's favorite dry food or used with enrichment toys like lick mats.

While you can use as much or as little as you'd like, we recommend mixing half of the suggested serving of your dog's dry food with half the suggested serving of dehydrated food. Adjust as needed to avoid overfeeding.

The 3 Best Ways to Stuff a KONG

Our cowoofers love a stuffed KONG! And there are many reasons we love to serve them. They're a great way to keep your pet entertained while treating them to something healthy and delicious. Plus, they serve as a great source of mental stimulation which can help with anxiety and destructive behavior caused by boredom. There are many ways to serve Honest Kitchen in conjunction with a KONG. Here are 3 of our favorite ways: KONG + Honest Kitchen's dehydrated recipes Our dehydrated recipes in a KONG is a classic combo! Whether you're looking to slow down your dog's eating, or just looking for a couple of extra minutes of quiet time while you're on a Zoom call, this is one of our favorite ways to keep dogs busy. We like to seal the KONG with a little pet-friendly peanut butter or a treat to ensure nothing falls out. This can serve as a snack or even a meal for pups who tend to gobble down their food too fast. SHOP NOW SHOP NOW SHOP NOW KONG + Honest Kitchen's Pâté and Stews Our latest obsession is to use our new wet foods in a KONG. This has quickly become a crowd favorite due to the palatability of our Butcher Block Pâté and One Pot Stews. These wet food varieties come in Tetra Paks and are less processed and fresher than cans, which make them a great option for those looking to boost their dog's health and nutrition. Tip: If you're using the One Pot Stews, we'd recommend putting tape on the bottom of the KONG, filling with Stew and freezing for a mess-free, long-lasting treat. Just remember to remove the tape before serving! SHOP NOW SHOP NOW KONG + Honest Kitchen's Wet Toppers Another easy way to stuff a KONG is to use Honest Kitchen's wet toppers. While this won't serve as a complete and balanced meal, this option is great for a mid-day snack between meals. These toppers are a healthy and tasty addition to any dog's diet, come in a variety of flavors, and have just a few ingredients. Plus, the easy-to-use box makes pouring into a KONG a simple and easy way to treat your dog to a protein-rich snack.
