Fight bad doggy breath and reward good behavior with a homemade treat!
We all expect our dogs to have some level of doggy breath. When it’s too hard to stomach, that’s usually a good indicator of dental health or digestive problems. But what about that middle ground—when your dog’s teeth or tummy aren’t giving him any troubles, but his breath could still wilt a few flowers. Time to give him a breath mint, but as a treat! Fresh mint and parsley are healthy herbs that will naturally freshen your dog’s breath. As well, we’ve added ground flaxseeds and The Honest Kitchen’s Perfect Form herbal supplement, which helps support proper digestion and intestinal health. It’s the ideal way to help fight bad breath and give your favorite pooch a well-deserved treat!
Ingredients
-
1 egg
-
1 tbsp ground flaxseeds
-
1 ½ cups flour
-
½ cup fresh mint
-
1/8 cup fresh parsley
-
1 tbsp The Honest Kitchen’s Perfect Form
-
½ cup water
-
2 cups whole or rolled oats
-
1 tsp cinnamon
Directions
Preheat oven to 375°F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
- Place oats in food processor or blender until chopped into fine pieces.
- In large bowl, combine flour, mint, parsley, cinnamon, Perfect Form, ground flaxseeds and chopped oats.
- Add egg and water to the bowl and mix well.
- Knead with hands to form dough. Add more water or flour as needed.
- Roll out dough onto floured surface to ¼ inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutters and place on cookie sheets.
- Place cookie sheets in oven and bake for 15 minutes.
- Remove cookies from oven and let cool on rack for 1-2 hours.
- Store in air tight containers, and keep in fridge or freezer until needed.
Recipe Note
If you don’t have fresh mint or parsley on hand, using the dried herbs as a substitute will work as well (my preference is to use fresh when I can).
